Isfahan is the center of regional Communications and also the meeting point of the national economy assimilation in central Iran. All around the city it's built many mosques , palaces, Avenues , Bridges, theater Saloons, libraries , Holly places,….. Therefore any urban development must be achieved conscious of preserving the urban Texture. According to the last statistical report in 1998 the Isfahan province population had been 4/370/000 and 62% of the population are between 15 and 64years old , 32%under 15 and 6% over 64. It is obvious the population is young and all need more urban Services during the coming decade.

| The History of Isfahan urban Subway organization : | |||

1969-1971 – At the time of Isfahan melting Company foundation a project was designed by foreign consultants starting at Isfahan international airport by the way of foolad shahr leading to Isfahan melting company . This project was not achieved at all. 1976- Some internal urba n studies was done by Swedish consulting engineers (Volvo co.) and then the process stopped . The proposition was a simple bus and railway network. 1948. Some suburban studies was achieved by Foolad mobarakeh and some of the Isfahan university of technology professors . The plan was about creating a railway network beside zayandeh rood. 1948. The approval of a general subway system by ministry of development and housing . The proposed Priority lines inside the city recommended by the possibilities studies is the north to South line between , kaveh terminal to soffeh Terminal . The Transportation Capacity of this line is estimated to be 19000 passengers per hour . 1986. studies about Isfahan subway network was achieved by a Japanese Consultant called komagui gomi with the management of Isfahan general governorship. At the end creating a subway and metro system was offered. 1987. A systematic transportation study was done by Isfahan university professors . The study was about the urban transportation with the management of Isfahan Traffic institute 1992-94. studies about the possibility of heavy traffic in Isfahan by p.p.k the Australian consultants were done. 2000. the budget improvement by the parliament in 5 great cities. 2001. planning the supplementary design of north to south urban railway with 12.5 km length. 2002. starting the executive operation of south and north to south tunnel. 2003. the end of executive operation of second tunnel and north to south line. 2004. starting the executive operation of the middle tunnel and the north to south line by T.B.M machines. 2005. approval of increasing the north to south line to 2.2km by a supplementary plan. 2005. starting the executive operation of kaveh-pasdaran tunnel in north to south line. 2005. starting the executive operation of shariaty-Azadi in north to south line. For the time being supplementary studies are executed on the proposed lines by P.P.k by Iranian consultant.
